FTS (FUND TRANSFER SCHEME)

The aim of the Funds Transfer Scheme is to help facilitate the processing of student visa applications from people who want to go to New Zealand to study for more than 12 months. In addition to the bank loan scheme announced in 2005, the Funds Transfer Scheme is another option for students to prove their financial ability.

  • Applicants or their parents open an account with the designated Indian Bank and deposit the required sum of money in that account and sign an agreement with the bank which stipulates that the funds deposited will be frozen and only available to be used for NZ study purposes.
  • Applicants then lodge their student visa applications with the branch along with the agreement with the bank and evidence of having opened an account with the bank.
  • INZ, ND branch processes the student visa applications and if satisfied notifies the applicant that they have been approved in principle
  • INZ, ND then forwards details to the NZ bank where an account is opened in the name of the applicant based on the information provided by INZ.
  • Once the NZ account has been opened the applicant approaches the Indian Bank to remit the money to the NZ account.
  • NZ bank notifies INZ confirming the applicant’s account balance
  • Applicant submits fee receipt, NZ account balance letter and other AIP requirements for issuance of student visa
  • On arrival in NZ, the student visits the NZ bank and activates their bank account after which the bank releases funds on a prorated basis from the students holding accounts to the transaction accounts which the student can use for meeting living costs.

Once the living cost of money is transferred to New Zealand this will be held in a savings account in the student’s name and will be locked in for a period of 12 months. During this period the student will not access to more than 1/12th of the amount plus the accrued interest every month. When the student reaches NZ he will need to present himself in person at the nearest ANZ branch post which a transaction account will be activated for the student and he will be given an ATM card to operate this account. The student therefore will have access to only the money in the transaction account but not in the savings account.
